Origins

Every enduring house begins somewhere quieter than its present. JMM began with an eye for design and a hand already trained in the craft of furniture — two instincts that, together, asked for more than either could offer alone.

What followed was not a straight path, but a deliberate one: years spent listening closely to where true craftsmanship was needed, refining a vision project by project, until one ambition rose above the rest — to design and build without compromise, for those who would accept nothing less. That ambition reshaped everything, down to how we chose to meet our clients: by appointment only, in confidence, on our own terms.

That vision is now shared across generations. Founders and successors work side by side today — a rare balance of youthful ambition and inherited discipline, bound by the one standard that was never open to negotiation: quality.

JMM is founded as a furniture retail brand
Opening of the first store, featuring both represented brands and original in-house designs
New challenges, new reach: JMM begins developing and installing solutions for internationally established brands, across sectors including automotive and retail, among others.

Expertise built across industries

Few luxury joinery companies bring experience from as many different industries as we do. Since the beginning, adapting to the market has meant producing and installing custom furniture and interior solutions for a wide range of industries entirely outside furniture — each with its own technical demands, timelines, and standards.

That path built something a conventional furniture manufacturer simply doesn't have: a kind of muscle. Adaptability. Rigour. Discipline with deadlines. And, above all, an international outlook and a genuinely deep understanding of what a client needs — not assumed, but learned the hard way, project after project.

That growth is not a footnote in our history. It's a large part of why we take on complexity a single-focus workshop would find unusual — and why, whatever the project, from interior architecture to fully custom furniture manufacturing, one thing never moves: quality.

Behind every made-to-measure project is a team that has learned precision the only way it can truly be learned: by doing it, over and over, at the highest standard we allow ourselves.

JMM today is close to 60 people — a mix of specialists with decades of hands-on experience in custom furniture manufacturing, and a new generation of qualified talent brought in deliberately to carry that knowledge forward. Some have been with us for over 20 years, long enough to have shaped, and been shaped by, the standard we still hold today.

It's not accidental. Skilled joinery craftsmanship is a discipline built slowly, and we've chosen to invest in the people who build it — because no amount of technology replaces judgement earned on the job.

Investing in the next generation of precision

We are currently in the final stages of building a new, 5,000 m² production facility — the most technologically advanced step in our history, integrating AI-assisted production planning, robotic manufacturing systems, automated warehousing, and robotic painting into how we build.It is not automation for its own sake. Truly skilled joinery labour is becoming harder to find across the entire custom furniture manufacturing industry — a challenge our whole sector will face, not just us. Rather than compete for an ever-smaller pool of specialised talent, we chose to act early: building the infrastructure to depend less on scarce manual skill for repetitive, precision-critical work, while freeing our most experienced people to focus exactly where human judgement matters most — overseeing the process, not repeating it.This is not a departure from who we are. It's the same commitment to precision manufacturing, carried forward with new tools.

Formati

A brand with an identity

Formati is a combination of the words “For” and “Mati” (a diminutive of Matilde), the family’s Cocker Spaniel who inspired the brand name and served as the source of all the creativity that led to the creation of a furniture collection featuring an elegant, functional, and ethereal design with Italian lines.

Formati is a premium brand dedicated to showcasing furniture that stands the test of time, conveying refinement and uniqueness. A unique quality, a contemporary style, and an exclusive furniture design.
